The Medicine Service Cardiology Department of the Salisbury VA Healthcare System is seeking a physician with training, expertise in adult clinical cardiology for a possible joint appointment with Wake Forest University/Wake Forest Baptist Health with practice location mostly at the Kernersville Health Care Center near Winston Salem. The ideal candidate will be board certified/eligible in cardiology with level 2 or 3 echocardiography training, advanced imaging skills including Cardiac MRI and/or Cardiac CT. The cardiologist will be responsible for providing comprehensive outpatient clinical cardiac services care as well as echocardiography, stress echocardiograms and advanced cardiac imaging. There will be minimal inpatient care activity associated with this position.
The incumbent will primarily be based at of the Kernersville Health Care Center location. The incumbent will perform/interpret stress test procedures (nuclear, chemical and routine treadmill), cardioversions, interpret echocardiography studies including performing transesophageal echocardiograms, Holter monitor and EKG interpretations, conduct internal and external case reviews as directed. Provides education and counseling of veterans and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs. The physician will establish professional working relationship with clinical service providers within the medical center and the Healthcare Centers (HCC), providing telephone consultation/triage as needed and screening consults that are received for appropriateness prior to scheduling . Staff Cardiologists are ultimately responsible for the oversight of all aspects of cardiac medical care delivered to patients under their care.
During scheduled tour hours, Staff Cardiologists shall be available for all urgent assessments and interventions. Applicants should have leadership skills and motivation to provide oversight of administrative operations, clinical care, and teaching with responsibilities that include the supervision of fellows from Wake Forest University Cardiology Fellowship Program. Applicant's length of practice (experience) will be considered by a Compensation Board in determining the salary of the applicant selected.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
