Time Saving Tips from www.QuelynnInc.com (26 hits)

Modern technology has made it easier to save time with Internet, email and all types of quick gadgets. However, instead of using those tools to save time, we've allowed them to consume our time. We often spend most of our day emailing, researching, scheduling, programming, etc. that we lose site of what and why we need these gadgets in the first place.

Questions: What are you doing with your time? Are you making the most of it?

Do you find yourself saying things like, "I wish I had more time" or "There are not enough hours in the day for me to do what I need to do"? If you answered yes, then I want to share with you some time saving tips that's sure to help you make the most of your time and get the most out of your day, so that you can concentrate nurturing those people and things that are more important to you.

Unify Online Accounts
It is not necessary to have multiple email accounts that you have to log on one and log off the other. There are several email hosts that will allow you to channel all of your various accounts through one email address. Be sure to unify your calendars as well. Too many calendars are too time consuming to update. Online calendars with your email is the way to go because you can color-code activities based on family, work, social, etc. -- I highly recommend Google Mail @ www.gmail.com because in addition to email and calendar, you can also create and save documents.

Set-up a Virtual Office
I recently set up my virtual office on iGoogle and everything is at my fingertips: email, calendar, voice mail service, Jott, notepad, documents, photos and contacts. This has reduced my online time by more than half, thus allowing me to do more in my business and ministry but more importantly nurture my quiet/meditation time with the Lord. Also, I can access my iGoogle account anywhere I have Internet access.

Turn Off Your Cell Phone
Do you ever wonder what people must have done without cell phones? They lived their lives. The truth of the matter is, cell phones can be a distraction at times. If you are working on a special project, in a meeting, or spending time with your family, turn your phone off. This will allow you to concentrate on the task at hand and complete it in a timely manner.

Plan Ahead
Preparation is key. Don't go throughout your day "playing it by ear." Plan your day and stick to your plans. Make lists: to-do list, call list, shopping list, etc. Update your list at the end of the day. (I've attached a phone log I used to use when I worked in Corporate America -- it really helps.)

Use a Stopwatch or Timer
Using a stop watch or timer is great because it prevents you from overworking yourself in one area that you neglect another area. Set a timer for yourself to do daily tasks and stop when your set time ends.

Make the Most of Your Time
If your kids play sports or have other extra curricula activities, work while you wait. Occupy your time by reading, updating your lists, shopping, etc.
