Maximize Your Potential (15 hits)

People often miss great opportunities because they do not have confidence in their own potential. They do not apply for jobs, do not seek higher education, do not start a family, do not start a business or ministry - all because they don't have faith in their ability to get those things accomplished.

Today we will explore six tips on how you can maximize your potential and achieve success in whatever you desire to do. First, let's begin by defining potential.

Encarta's English Dictionary:

possible but as yet not actual: having a latent possibility or likelihood of occurring, or of doing or becoming something.
expressing possibility: describes a verb or verb form that expresses possibility, e.g. "may" or "might" in English.
capacity for development: a capacity to develop, succeed, or become something.

My favorite definition of potential is this:

What you are capable of being, doing or becoming but have not been, done or become yet.

How to tap into and maximize your potential: (View the attached PPT for details)

1. Pray.

It all begins with God.

Ask God to reveal your abilities/capabilities to you.
Remember, with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).

2. Self-assessment.

What are you good at?
What gives you the greatest joy?
What are your future plans or goals?

3. Ask trusted family and friends.

What do they think you are good at?
What do they think you are capable of?
4. Tear down mental strongholds.

Stop thinking you can't do it.
Stop talking against your potential with a defeated attitude.
Dispel all negative thinking, words and people.

5. Gather information.

Do research.
Take a class.
Find a mentor.

6. Just do it.

Once you've done the previous five steps -- just step out on faith and do whatever is in your heart to you.

My 2008 theme: If you want something you've never done before, then you must do something you've never done before.
