Urban Soul Café celebrates Jacky Clark-Chisholm’s contribution to the Gospel music industry and C.O.G.I.C’s music department
Nashville, January 2, 2009: Pioneering Gospel artist, Jacky Clark-Chisholm, will receive the Urban Soul Café Lifetime Achievement Award on Friday, January 16, 2009 at B.B. King’s Nashville at 7:30 pm during Access Granted: 2009 All-Star Weekend. This star studded two day extravaganza will feature performances from the best and brightest of Gospel music including James Fortune and FIYA, Damita Haddon, and Flame. Friday night will also be a family affair as Ms. Clark- Chisholm’s daughter Angel Chisholm will pay tribute to her mother with a special song penned by Mali Music.
Jacky Clark-Chisholm is one -fourth of the dynamic and legendary Clark Sisters. The eldest of the foursome, Jacky has used her God given gifts of song, administration and ministry to spread God’s message during her 30 + year career in the music industry. Her smooth yet versatile voice brings balance to that high energy Clark Sisters sound. As the lead vocal on classics like “Wonderful Counselor”, “I’ve Got an Angel” and “So Much Joy”, it’s evident that her talents have been perfected over time. Her solo project, Expectancy, is a masterful collection of Jacky at her best.
Much like her mother, the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, Jacky looks over her younger siblings providing guidance and assurance. “Jacky would be more of our mother back in the day and now,” says her sister Dorinda Clark Cole. Now a wife and mother of three, Jacky utilizes those instincts with her own family. She has also used her passion for music and family to help establish the Clark Conservatory of Music in her home town of Detroit, MI. The Clark Conservatory of Music has trained hundreds of students over the years. As the administrator of the school, Jacky develops the curriculum and organizes workshops for the students. She also lends her talents to the COGIC youth department, overseeing the choir during their annual meetings.
Despite her demanding schedule with music, ministry and family, Jacky received her nursing degree and serves as an instructor for the American Red Cross. As if her schedule isn’t full enough, Jacky finds time to be highly involved with the American Diabetes Association.
Since 2005, the Urban Soul Café has served as a vehicle to promote the urban Gospel music genre and provide a safe haven for Christians to fellowship with one another in a non-traditional setting without losing the focus of Kingdom building. Throughout the years, the café’s territory has increased fruitfully as record attendance numbers continue to shoot through the roof. Over 200 major and independent artists have appeared on the Urban Soul Café stage. “It’s more than music, it’s a lifestyle,” says Mr. Hale. “There’s fun, excitement, networking and there is Jesus in the midst.”
