A BIBLICAL MOMENT IN BLACK HISTORY (45 hits)

Scripture Reference: “I am Black but comely …King Solomon 1:5

The sacred scriptures are filled with stories of African Americans. Not only the stories, but the struggles, sufferings and injustices inflicted upon “people of color.”

In Vincent Winbush’s book, African Americans in the Bible, he elaborates on the fact that when we read scriptures, we read about darkness in the ancient text. This darkness of biblical readings can be found in such books as Proverbs, Psalms, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, I Kings, and 2 Chronicles. What does all of these books have in common? They share the stories and experiences of a powerful biblical figure – King Solomon. Solomon was the son of David and Bathsheba. He came to the throne aided by his mother, Nathan the prophet and Zadok the priest. He became King, soon after his father’s death.

During his rule, King Solomon was accredited to building the First Temple in Jerusalem. He strengthened his kingdom through marital alliances – 700 wives and 300 concubines. He was noted as a clever judge when two women came to court with a baby whom both women claimed as their own. He sought God for wisdom and became known for his wise sayings. He composed 3000 proverbs, 1005 songs, author of the Songs of Solomon and Ecclesiastes. King Solomon – a man of wealth and power. How much can you accomplish if you seek God daily for wisdom? How effective can you become at the risk of following godly wisdom? It is not God who fails us, but we who fail ourselves. We trust our intellect, our wisdom, our rationale more than we trust God. by not adhering to the wisdom of God who can direct us to the right paths.

Don’t be a fool. The wisdom of God can be your greatest tool.
