Why Do Black Women Return to Abusive Men? (31 hits)

The saga that is the relationship between pop and R&B stars Rihanna and Chris Brown returned to the center stage of entertainment news last week as the young couple appeared to reconcile after Brown badly beat or slapped around Rihanna nearly a month ago.

The reported reconciliation after the alleged beating has domestic violence experts nationwide up-in-arms. They have been busy denouncing or trying to explain why many women, especially African American, have a tendency to return to men who allegedly abuse them. The explanations have ranged from personal insecurity to love. Meanwhile, Brown has been charged with felony assault and making criminal threats.

Nevertheless, since the alleged beating, neither Rihanna nor Brown has shared a specific comment about what happened nor what prompted the reconciliation. All we know is that a Los Angeles Police Department photo emerged showing Rihanna with scratches on her face and bruises on her lips and forehead. Then last week another picture emerges of a reunited Rihanna and Brown coming out of a Miami Beach mansion owned by Rap music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs.
