Whether you are engaged to be married, or are occasionally dating, the best time to choose your bridesmaids is today! Many times, ladies pick sisters, cousins, college roommates, church members, and friends to help them walk down the aisle. It's more of an afterthought. We don't even think about the bridesmaids until we're planning the wedding. And then the question comes up. "Who is going to walk down the aisle in front of me?"
A bridesmaid is a woman who is close to you. Someone you will look to when you are losing your mind with favors and fittings. She's someone who wants to help you go through this stressful process by elevating your stress. She's someone you can depend on. She's been there for you in the past, so you can trust her to be with you as you prepare for your marriage. She's a true friend, not just someone interested cropping out her face from your wedding photos to use as her Facebook profile pic.
See, we sometimes have ladies around us just because we feel an obligation to have them around. They could be friends or family, college chums or co-workers. They smile at us and we smile back at them. But if we were in a burning building, and needed someone to rescue us, they wouldn't risk their lives to save ours.
The bottom line is this. If the ladies you're spending time with aren't people who would be there for you in a crisis, it's time to choose some better friends. If you go out to lunch with your co-workers, but can't trust them support you at work, chose some other associates. Your engagement is not the time to discover that you really have no friends, and no support through one of the most exhausting, draining, and life-changing times of your life. Be good to yourself, and start to pick your bridesmaids today by choosing friends who will be there when you need them!
