The Lord Is Our Refuge (22 hits)

“God is our refuge and strength…”~ Psalm 46:1

Do you know how to party? Do you know how to host a party? Better yet, do you know how to enjoy a party? One would think that the psalmist in this psalm has gone psycho? Others may think that the psalmist is bi-polar. But what do you think?

In the midst of “present trouble,” the psalmist is singing. In the midst of mountains shaking, the psalmist is rejoicing. In the midst of heathens raging, the psalmist is shouting. In the midst of the seas swelling, the psalmist is glad. Has this psalmist lost his or her mind? No!!! The psalmist does not picture his current calamities as disaster. Nor does he see Satan on the scene. The Psalmist visualizes in this moment – the city of God. He views his “city of chaos” as a “city of God,” launching a praise party instead of a pity party.

The psalmist does two things – he celebrates and he makes a confession. He celebrates the kingdom of God on earth. And salutes His victorious reign over all the earth. Secondly, the psalmist makes a confession of his triumphant trust in God. Although things are sinking and breaking up around him, he yet confesses, the Lord God is our refuge and our strength. The psalmist doesn’t allow the circumstances to change him, he changes the circumstances, by throwing a “praise party.” He creates atmosphere, excitement and energy. Can you do the same? Can you handle pain and praise simultaneously? Can you have regrets and rejoice at the same time? These are just good questions for you to process. But after processing, consider this option – take a day off and have a praise party. Some may call you crazy, while others may look at you strange. But only God knows, that the place you’re in now requires a necessitated remedy – a praise party!!! For the Lord is your refuge and your strength.
