It Was Good For Me (107 hits)

Many times, as I struggled to please a violent mate, I would cry out to God asking why this was happening to me and I would think about the Psalms.

With all that David had struggled with, he could have left behind any record. As an elderly man, David could have dwelt on all his former struggles with Saul, losing his child, his lust for Bathesheba and the consequences and felt downtrodden. Yet, out of all that had transpired, David yet praised God and said "I once was young and now I'm old, yet have I never seen the righteous forsaken or his seed begging bread."

In another passage David states, "It is good for me that I am afflicted." The words of David, the words in the Psalms often carried me through and reminded me that no matter what I was going through, even if I couldn't see it or feel it, God is yet faithful and it's all working out to my good.I n honor of Domestic Violence Month, I'd like to present a poem from my book...

IT WAS GOOD FOR ME
By Linda A. Haywood & Denee Walker

It was GOOD for me,
to bear the cross of poverty…
because now I appreciate the value of money.

It was GOOD for me,
to bear the cross of being lied to
by false friends and true enemies…
because I can now appreciate
and embrace the truth when I hear it.

It was GOOD for me,
to bear the cross of addiction
and toxic relationships…
because I can now appreciate
what it means to be delivered and set free.

It was GOOD for me,
to bear the cross of being isolated
from those closest to me…
because I can now appreciate
true friends, loved ones
and the woman that I’ve grown to be.

It was GOOD for me,
to bear the cross of almost losing all that I own…
because now I realize and appreciate
that until a house is blessed by God,
it can never really be called a “home.”
